“The proper function of man is to live, not to exist.”
Having ignored warnings against traveling alone an unnamed protagonist sets out to hike on a brutal winter day where the temperature has fallen to −75 °F (−59 °C). He is accompanied only by a husky dog. The animal’s instincts warn it about the dangers of the extreme cold, but the dog reluctantly follows the man.
This illustrated edition used vast white spaces and rough line work to emphasize the harsh cold of the Yukon Trail, the setting of London’s classic 1908 short story.
